Koreen: Kevin Porter Jr. trade is a step back in sports confronting domestic violence
This article discusses the trading of Kevin Porter Jr. and questions the commodification of domestic violence in the NBA. As a History major, I think that as a society we must be conscious of how the next generation will view us. What were our morals and what did we love? The Kevin Porter Jr. trade leaves me with the question, how will the future look at our deep passion for the sports we love today? I think it can be argued that in American society we have put sport above all else and in the future, people will point back to this trade and question why we were loyal to the sport over morals. In this trade, both teams took advantage of the Porter Jr. domestic violence situation and both teams benefitted. I love the way Koreen calls this out and even proposes a new idea that those facing accusations/cases should be frozen from trades. I think it is very important to find a way to both love a sport but also be able to contextualize the importance of that sport in the face of what is right/moral.
